This percentage calculator is deliberately simple: it answers the three percentage questions people actually search for. Use it for discounts, rent or salary changes, VAT checks, price comparisons and quick sanity checks before moving into a more specific calculator.

Example calculations
20% discount on an item priced at EUR 149.
20% of EUR 149 is EUR 29.80, so the discounted price is EUR 119.20.
Use the same mode for VAT shares, broker-fee estimates or quick budget percentages.
Monthly salary rises from EUR 4,200 to EUR 4,620.
The increase is EUR 420, which is a 10% raise.
For take-home impact, use the gross-net calculator after checking the percentage.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate X percent of Y?
Convert the percentage to a decimal and multiply it by the total. For example, 15% of 200 is 0.15 times 200, which equals 30.
How do I calculate what percentage one number is of another?
Divide the smaller or comparison value by the total value, then multiply by 100. If 25 is part of 200, then 25 divided by 200 equals 12.5%.
How do I calculate percentage change?
Subtract the start value from the end value, divide by the start value and multiply by 100. A positive result is an increase; a negative result is a decrease.
Is percentage point the same as percent?
No. Moving from 5% to 7% is an increase of 2 percentage points. Relative to the original 5%, it is a 40% increase.
Can I use this for discounts and VAT?
Yes for basic percentage arithmetic. For VAT-specific gross-net results, the VAT calculator is better because it separates net, tax and gross amounts.
Why do percentage decreases and increases not cancel out?
Because the second percentage is applied to a different base. A 20% drop from 100 gives 80; a 20% rise from 80 gives 96, not 100.
